Yesterday during the WWE Corporate financial conference call, details on the WWE Network programming roll out were discussed, most importantly the Thursday night lineup. The Thursday night lineup will be gradually phased in, what makes this interesting is WWE programming will be going head to head with TNA’s flagship program Impact Wrestling on tradition cable and satellite.
Here is the rollout plan starting Feb 27th and completed by April 10:
Starting February 27:
Superstars at 10pm
Starting March 6:
NXT TV at 9pm
Starting April 10:
Legends House at 8pm
A lot of people are calling this the “new wrestling war”. A couple of reasons why this likely isn’t the dawn of a new wrestling war.
First, besides the first episode of NXT, these will be taped, as are most Impact Wrestling shows, the one-upsmanship of the original Monday Night War was a product of two live shows reacting to what each show was presenting.
Two one is on a streaming network and the other is on cable/sattellite, this will make it extremely difficult to “flip” back and forth seamlessly between programs. In this day and age where the majority of cable households have DVR, and WWE Network will offer repeats on demand, no one has to choose between which program to watch, you only have to pick when to watch. This is not to say it may make a ding in TNA’s ratings, it very well could, but i am guessing only the live rating.
